Bangladesh Official Criticizes Modi’s Post on Victory Day, Calls for Accurate Acknowledgment
New Delhi/Dhaka, 17th December 2024: Bangladesh’s interim government legal adviser, Asif Nazrul, has expressed strong opposition to a social media post by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the country’s Victory Day. In a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday, Nazrul wrote, “I strongly protest. 16th December 1971, was Bangladesh’s Victory Day. India was an ally in this victory, nothing more.”
He shared a screenshot of Modi’s Facebook message, which honoured India’s soldiers, stating, “Today, on Vijay Diwas, we honour the courage and sacrifices of the brave soldiers who contributed to India’s historic victory in 1971. Their selfless dedication safeguarded our nation and brought us glory. This day is a tribute to their extraordinary valour and unshakable spirit. Their sacrifices will inspire generations and remain deeply embedded in our nation’s history.”
