Amit Shah Promises Legislation to Block Land Transfers to “Infiltrators” in Jharkhand

Ranchi, 11th November 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that an ‘intruder’ who marries a tribal woman will not be entitled to land in her name, during a rally in poll-bound Jharkhand. Criticizing the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress alliance, Shah promised that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, they would pass legislation to prevent land transfers to “infiltrators”—a term he used for people from Bangladesh who marry tribal women. This statement mirrored Prime Minister Modi’s recent comments on the same issue.

“Infiltrators are securing land by marrying our daughters. We will introduce a law to stop land transfers to them. We will also set up a committee to identify infiltrators, remove them, and recover the land they have taken,” Shah said at a rally in Seraikela.

His comments came after a similar attack by Prime Minister Modi in Garhwa, where he accused the ruling coalition of supporting infiltrators from Bangladesh. Modi also criticized Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for “humiliating an Adivasi son.”

Shah further claimed that if the BJP wins, corrupt leaders from the JMM-Congress alliance would face imprisonment for various scams, including a ₹1,000 crore jobs scam, a ₹300 crore land scam, and a ₹1,000 crore mining scam. He also promised that the BJP would ensure more transparency in the distribution of aid from the central government.

Shah attacked Congress over a massive cash seizure in December when the Income Tax Department raided the residence of Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu, recovering over ₹350 crore in cash. “Has anyone ever seen ₹350 crore? But it was found at the house of a Congress MP,” he said. Shah also referenced another cash seizure in May, when ₹35 crore was found at the residence of Congress leader Alamgir Alam’s private secretary.

“These ₹350 crore and ₹30 crore are funds meant for Jharkhand’s youth but were siphoned off by the Hemant Soren government,” Shah claimed.
