Ajit Pawar Names Hasan Mushrif as NCP Candidate for Kagal Ahead of Maharashtra Elections
Kolhapur, 12th August 2024: As the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections approach, political parties across the state are intensifying their preparations with various meetings and campaigns.
With elections scheduled in the coming months, the key contest will be between two major alliances: Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi.
During his visit to Kolhapur district, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Ajit Pawar announced the party’s first candidate for the Maharashtra Legislative Elections. He named Minister of Medical Education and Minister of Special Assistance of Maharashtra Hasan Mushrif as the NCP candidate for the Kagal Assembly Constituency while addressing a party gathering in Kagal yesterday.
Pawar urged voters to elect Hasan Mushrif by a significant margin to discourage his opponents from contesting future elections.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Samarjeetsinh Ghatge, who was also a candidate for Kagal, now faces a challenge with Mushrif’s nomination. The NCP is part of the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
It remains to be seen how Ghatge will respond, as there have been discussions about Sharad Pawar possibly inviting him to join the Nationalist Congress Sharadchandra Pawar Party (NCP-SP). The public is keenly watching whether Ghatge will join the NCP (SP) and challenge Mushrif in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections. This will be Mushrif’s seventh election; he has previously won five out of six contests, with his only defeat coming in a bypoll to Sanjay Ghatge of the Shiv Sena during the Mahayuti Government.
