Delhi Protest: Haryana Villagers Confront Police Over Attempt to Stop CJP Protesters From Reaching Delhi

Rohtak, Haryana, 10th October 2026: Residents of Kabilpur village in Haryana’s Rohtak district stopped police personnel from leaving after officers arrived early on 10th October to prevent people from travelling to Delhi for the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest against electoral irregularities.

Police arrived at the residence of district council member Jaidev Dagar around 6 am to place him under house arrest ahead of the demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The move prompted villagers to gather at the spot and question the officers about the legal basis for the action.

A video of the incident, which circulated widely on social media, shows villagers confronting the police and demanding to know whether the officers had brought a formal notice authorising the detention. The residents reportedly refused to let the personnel leave until senior police officials arrived and explained the grounds for the action.

In the video, a villager questions the officers over their reference to Section 166 and says the villagers have invoked Section 333 in response. The exchange appears to have been made in the context of the standoff; the legal applicability of the sections was not independently established in the reports.

The incident comes amid heightened security measures in Haryana ahead of the CJP’s proposed demonstration in Delhi. Police and intelligence teams reportedly visited the homes of people associated with the protest, while security checks were intensified at locations along routes leading to the national capital.

The CJP demonstration called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls. Authorities in Delhi had denied permission for the protest, and several organisers and demonstrators were detained as police attempted to prevent gatherings.

The confrontation in Kabilpur drew attention online because the residents who had gathered to challenge the police action ended up preventing the officers from leaving. The incident also raised questions about the use of preventive measures to stop people from participating in the planned demonstration.
