508 Railway Stations To Undergo Massive Redevelopment: PM Modi’s Ambitious Vision Unveiled
New Delhi, 6th August 2023: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually initiated the foundation laying ceremony for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, at an estimated cost of over Rs 24,470 crores.
The Prime Minister announced that a total of 1300 major railway stations in India will be developed under the Amrit Bharat Railway Station initiative, transforming them into modern centers. The initial phase involves the redevelopment of 508 stations, with an allocation of approximately Rs 25,000 crores.
During the event, PM Modi expressed his pride in India’s increased global stature, with the world’s attention focused on the country.
According to an official release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the redevelopment will be undertaken in 508 railway stations spread across 27 states and union territories. These stations will be transformed into vibrant “city centers,” fostering integration on both sides of the cities.
Taking to Twitter on the previous day, PM Modi mentioned that the project marks a significant milestone for the railways sector in India and will revolutionize the nation’s rail infrastructure. He highlighted that the redevelopment will improve “Ease of Living” for passengers, offering enhanced comfort and convenience. Moreover, special attention has been given to ensure that the revamped stations align with local culture, heritage, and architecture.
The list of stations to be revamped includes 55 in Uttar Pradesh, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, in Odisha, there are 22 cases reported, while in Punjab, there are 21 cases. Gujarat and Telangana have each recorded 21 cases as well. Jharkhand has 20 reported cases, while Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu each have 18 cases. Haryana has 15 reported cases, and Karnataka has 13 cases.
This ambitious initiative is set to transform the face of Indian railway stations, ushering in a new era of modernization and convenience for travelers.
