UP Government To Use Netherlands’s Model To Reduce And Re-Enroll School Dropouts

Lucknow, 20th February 2023: A 12-person team from the Uttar Pradesh government will travel to The Netherlands to research the “Early Warning System,” under the direction of Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh.

According to a government spokeswoman, this strategy is anticipated to assist the state in re-enrolling school dropouts, particularly those between the ages of 6 and 14.

The Netherlands has created what they refer to as an “Early Warning System” to stop children from quitting school. If a child misses more than 40 days of school, the system tracks the student through the authorities.

The child’s return to school is then ensured by contacting the parents (or legal guardians).

To lower school drop-out rates, a similar strategy may soon be applied in Uttar Pradesh as well.

The state intends to launch several awareness programs to persuade parents to send their children to school in addition to using the Netherlands model. By the end of this year, the system will most likely be launched.

In 2020–21, the state’s Basic Education Department found that 4.81 lakh kids were not attending school.

Vijay Kiran Anand, Director General of school education said, “On the lines of the Early Warning System, extra efforts will be made to connect the absent children — out-of-school children into the mainstream of education.
