Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Approves Key Railway Projects in Pune Division
Pune, 23rd July 2024: The population of Pune has increased significantly, leading to a higher demand for railway services. Pune Railway Station is now deemed insufficient for the growing number of passengers. To address this, a mega terminal will be built at Uruli Kanchan, alongside the development of Khadki, Shivajinagar, and Hadapsar railway stations. The Indian Railways Pune Division has taken steps to double the number of passengers it can accommodate in Pune.
Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw recently reviewed the Pune Division of Indian Railways. During this review, he approved many stalled projects. Pune Railway Station will be developed in phases to preserve its heritage building. Since the station is heavily used, it cannot be completely closed down for development. A phased approach ensures that passenger services will not be disrupted.
As the population of Pune has grown, the pressure on Pune Railway Station has increased daily. To alleviate this pressure, a new mega terminal will be built in Uruli Kanchan. Additionally, Khadki, Shivajinagar, and Hadapsar Railway Stations will be developed to accommodate more passengers, increasing overall capacity. This chain of alternative railway stations will help reduce the stress on Pune Railway Station.
The review also approved the construction of the 3rd and 4th lanes of the Pune to Lonavala railway. The process for the Pune-Ahmednagar railway route is being expedited, and the issues stalling the development of the Pune-Nashik railway route will be resolved soon. Additionally, steps will be taken to increase the number of trains between Pune and Mumbai, as well as trains heading towards North and South India, according to officials from the Indian Railways’ Pune Division.
