SC Postpones Hearing On Political Crisis In Maharashtra Till 14th February

Mumbai, 10th January 2023: The Supreme Court (SC) has again postponed the hearing on the political crisis in Maharashtra. The hearing of the petitions filed between Chief Minister (CM) Eknath Shinde and former CM Uddhav Thackeray will now be held on 14th February. There is a dispute between the factions of Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde over the symbol of the Shiv Sena party. Both claim that their faction is the real Shiv Sena and say they should be given the symbol of the bow and arrow. The Supreme Court had asked the Election Commission to decide on the symbol. During the elections held in Mumbai, the Election Commission rewarded both factions with alternate names and symbols.

Now the matter is with the Constitution Bench of CJI (Chief Justice of India) Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice M Shah, Justice Krishna Murari, Justice Hima Kohli, and Justice TS Narasimha. Till the decision is made, the disqualification of MLAs can not be decided either. The seven-member constitution bench should consider this issue during the last hearing. Hence, a demand was made from the five-member constitution bench that the matter is handed over to the seven-member constitution bench.
