Rahul Gandhi Plans to File Complaints with Election Commission Following Congress’s Unexpected Defeat in Haryana
New Delhi, 10th October 2024: On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed his party’s surprising defeat in the Haryana assembly elections, stating that he plans to report complaints of irregularities from various constituencies to the Election Commission.
“Heartfelt thanks to the people of Jammu and Kashmir—India’s victory there represents a triumph for the Constitution and democratic dignity. We are currently analyzing the unexpected results in Haryana and will communicate the complaints we’ve received from numerous assembly constituencies to the Election Commission. I extend my gratitude to the people of Haryana for their support and to our dedicated Babbar Sher workers for their hard work. We will persist in our fight for rights, social and economic justice, and truth; we will continue to raise our voices,” he posted on X in Hindi.
The BJP secured victory in the Haryana assembly elections, winning 48 out of 90 seats, while the Congress, initially expected to do well, managed to obtain only 37 seats.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference achieved 42 seats, the BJP won 29, and the Congress, as the NC’s ally, secured 6 seats.
The Congress party described the results of the Haryana assembly elections as “unacceptable.”
Pawan Khera, the party spokesperson, asserted that the results reflect a setback for democracy.
“The outcome was unexpected, and we would even call it unacceptable. We are receiving numerous complaints, particularly regarding our candidates from Hisar, Mahendragarh, and Panipat. There are ongoing reports about machines that showed a 99% likelihood of loss for our candidates, while those that were untouched indicated our candidates winning with 60-70% battery life,” he explained.
Khera emphasized that the Congress cannot accept the undermining of democratic principles.
“In summary, this is a victory for the system and a defeat for democracy. We cannot accept this… We are compiling complaints. Our candidates have submitted grievances to the returning officers and continue to do so. In the coming days, we will present all these issues to the Election Commission. Such a result was not evident on the ground; it is hard to believe that such an unexpected outcome could occur in Haryana. We are all astonished,” he added.
