Pune: 2.58 Lakh Youth Voters In Chinchwad Assembly By-Election

Chinchwad, 20th February 2023: The by-election of the Chinchwad assembly constituency will be held in five days. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and independent candidates are campaigning vigorously.

In the Chinchwad constituency, 50 per cent of the total number of voters are youth. Therefore, the fate of the future MLA is in the hands of 2.58 lakh young voters. The vote of these youths will be decisive for victory.

BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap passed away on January 3. Therefore, by-elections are being held in Chinchwad Assembly Constituency. 28 candidates, including BJP candidate Ashwini Jagtap, Mahavikas Aghadi candidate Vitthal alias Nana Kate, and independent candidate, Rahul Kalate, are in the fray in this election. However, the real fight is between Jagtap, Kate and Kalate. Voting will be held at 510 voting stations on February 26 and the counting of votes will be held on March 2.

The city of Pimpri-Chinchwad has developed rapidly in the last few years. Mainly in this, big towers have been erected in various parts of the Chinchwad Assembly Constituency. The constituency has sizeable populations of the rich, middle class and those from economically weaker sections of society. There are 5,68,954 voters in this constituency. In this, there are 3,02,946 male, 2,65,974 female, and 35 transgender voters.

If the voters are classified according to age groups, the number of voters in the age group of 18 to 39 is about 2,58,042. This year 4,251 new voters will vote for the first time. There are 84,575 voters in the age group of 20 to 29 years. There are 1,73,467 voters aged 30 to 39 years. It is followed by 1,45,950 adult voters in the age group of 40 to 49 years. 77,844 aged 50 to 59, and 48,084 aged 60 to 69 are senior voters. There are 34,799 elderly voters above 70 years.

Sachin Dhole, Election Returning Officer, informed, “To ensure maximum voting in this by-election, the Election Commission is spreading public awareness through street drama, kirtan, and social media. Also, the distribution of Voter slips is going door to door. To increase the percentage of voting, micro observers and independent teams have been appointed. Facilities have been provided for disabled and elderly voters and wheelchairs and ramps have been provided at the polling station.”
