PM Modi And Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina To Jointly Inaugurate India-Bangladesh Diesel Pipeline On March 18

New Delhi, 17th March 2023: On March 18, through video conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh’s PM Sheikh Hasina will jointly open the India-Bangladesh Friendship Diesel Pipeline.

This is the first cross-border energy pipeline between India and Bangladesh. It cost an estimated Rs 377 crore to build, with the Indian government providing grant aid for the construction of the pipeline’s Bangladesh section, which cost about Rs 285 crore.

Around one million metric tonnes of diesel per year (MMTPA) may be transported through the pipeline, and this amount will initially be provided to seven districts in northern Bangladesh.

According to government sources, the functioning of the pipeline would establish a long-term, dependable, economical, and environmentally beneficial method of transferring diesel from India to Bangladesh. It will further strengthen bilateral cooperation in energy security.
