New Faces Energise Electoral Battle in Western Uttar Pradesh; Youthful Candidates to Face Tough Competition
Meerut, 11th April 2024: The political landscape of Western Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a surge of energy with the entry of three young contenders into the electoral fray. This development, characterised by candidates spanning ages 29 to 50, marks a departure from traditional electoral trends.
Professor Sanjeev Sharma from Chaudhary Charan Singh University underscores the significance of youthfulness in politics, noting that even individuals aged 55 are considered relatively young in the political realm. This shift in demographics is poised to intensify the electoral competition in the region.
In Bijnor, Chandan Chauhan, aged 35 and representing the BJP-Rashtriya Lok Dal coalition, steps into the political arena as a fresh face. Hailing from a prominent political lineage as the grandson of former Deputy CM Chaudhary Narayan Singh, Chauhan’s candidature reflects a strategic move amidst evolving political dynamics after the Ram Temple’s consecration. Vipin Bharadwaj, a lecturer at a government intermediate college, lauds Chauhan’s political acumen, highlighting his potential to reshape the political landscape in Bijnor.
Meanwhile, in Kairana, the emergence of 27-year-old Ikra Hasan on the tickets of both the Samajwadi Party and Congress signifies a notable shift in the electoral landscape. Coming from a distinguished political lineage in London, Hasan’s entry into electoral politics demonstrates a blend of youthful vigour and political maturity. Despite her newcomer status, Hasan’s candidacy garners attention, hinting at promising prospects in the electoral contest.
In addition to these new entrants, seasoned politicians like Chandrashekhar of the Aazad Samaj Party and Dolly Sharma of the Congress are making significant strides in their respective constituencies. Chandrashekhar’s aggressive demeanour and confrontational speaking style position him as a formidable figure in Western Uttar Pradesh, while Dolly Sharma leverages her political experience to address local issues in Ghaziabad.
Furthermore, the BJP’s decision to field candidates aged up to 55 years challenges conventional age barriers in politics. Bhola Singh, a 46-year-old two-time Member of Parliament from Bulandshahr, and Lakhnupal, aged 49, defy age norms as they actively engage in the electoral process.
Similarly, Dr. Sanjeev Baliyan, aged 52, and Sunita Varma, aged 49, are among the veterans defying age barriers in their pursuit of political office.
