Maharashtra: Vacancies in PWD Raise Concerns, Minister Announces Initiative to Fill Over Two Thousand Posts
Nagpur, 19th December 2023: The Public Works Department (PWD) is grappling with a significant shortage of personnel in crucial roles, with many posts for Junior and Civil Engineers lying vacant. Minister of Public Works (excluding Public Enterprises) Ravindra Chavan addressed the Legislature, revealing that the process of filling more than two thousand posts across various cadres has been initiated.
Minister Chavan provided this information in response to a query raised by Purandar MLA Sanjay Jagtap and other public representatives, shedding light on the pressing issue of vacancies within PWD. According to Chavan, approximately 313 positions for PWD Assistant Engineer Grade II, Junior Engineer, Branch Engineer, and Civil Engineering Assistant are currently unfilled in the Pune Division.
Despite the existing vacancies, the Assistant Engineer Grade II, Branch Engineer, Junior Engineer, and Civil Engineering Assistant working under PWD Pune Division are diligently completing assigned tasks within the specified time frame. To address the manpower deficit, a requisition letter has been dispatched to the Maharashtra Public Service Commission, seeking to fill 301 posts of Assistant Engineer Grade II (Construction) cadre through direct service.
The proactive approach continues with the ongoing process of recruiting for 532 Junior Engineer positions and 1378 Civil Engineering Assistant positions through the selection committee. Minister Chavan assured that steps are being taken to expedite the recruitment process and address the staffing challenges faced by PWD in Pune Division.
The Minister’s response underscores the government’s commitment to fortifying the workforce in critical roles within the Public Works Department. The initiative to fill over two thousand vacancies is seen as a strategic move to ensure the efficient functioning of PWD and timely completion of infrastructure projects in Pune Division.
