Maharashtra Politics: Kolhe’s Strategic Campaign Brings Victory in Shirur Amidst NCP Rivalry
Shirur, 6th June 2024: The Shirur constituency witnessed an intriguing political battle between NCP factions led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar. Traditionally dominated by the Adhalrao Patil family, with Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil serving as the three-time MP from 2004 to 2019, the constituency saw a significant shift in the recent elections.
A key factor in this shift was the neutral stance taken by Ambegaon MLA Dilip Walse Patil, a prominent leader of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. His accident, which kept him away from active campaigning, inadvertently benefited the NCP (SCP) candidate Amol Kolhe.
Kolhe, an actor-turned-politician, secured a resounding victory with a margin of 1,40,951 votes, marking his second consecutive win in the constituency. “We won this election with just one MLA and hardworking ‘karyakartas’ in the entire constituency. I give them all the credit,” Kolhe said after his victory.
The true hero of the Shirur Assembly, according to Kolhe, was Ashok Pawar, who played a significant role in the win. Kolhe’s dominance was evident as he led in five out of the six Assembly segments, except for Bhosari, where BJP leader Mahesh Landge has considerable influence.
The counting results showcased Kolhe’s overwhelming popularity, as he garnered 6,98,692 votes against Adhalrao Patil’s 5,57,741. Kolhe led in all Assembly segments except Bhosari, where he received 1,17,823 votes compared to Adhalrao Patil’s 1,27,395.
Accepting his defeat, Adhalrao Patil said, “I accept the decision of the people from my constituency. The voters have democratically elected their representative. I also thank all leaders of Mahayuti who worked tirelessly for me.”
Despite Adhalrao Patil’s significant support in Bhosari, Kolhe’s commanding leads in Junnar, Shirur, Hadapsar, Khed Alandi, and Ambegaon were decisive in his victory. This outcome highlighted the shifting political dynamics in the region, where traditional loyalties and strongholds are being challenged by emerging forces.
