Maharashtra Government Creates Department For Welfare Of Disabled Persons, Allocates Rs 1143 Crores
Mumbai, 3rd December 2022: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced today that a separate department for the welfare of Disabled Persons (Divyang) has been established in Maharashtra on the occasion of World Day of Disabled Persons.
For this, 2,063 posts have been created, and a fund of Rs 1143 crore has been provided while giving information that Maharashtra is the first state to start a separate department for the disabled in this way, Chief Minister Shinde said.
On the occasion of the World Day of Persons with Disabilities, a state-level program was organized in the Convocation Hall of Mumbai University. Women and Child Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, MLAs Bachu Kadu, Yamini Jadhav, Chief Secretary Manukumar Srivastava, Social Justice Department Secretary Sumant Bhange, and BARTI Director General Dhamma Jyoti Gajbhiye were present on the platform. On this occasion, the Chief Minister felicitated disabled individuals working in various fields.
On the occasion of International Day of Disabled, Chief Minister Shinde said, “Our state is a state for the common good. Everyone felt that there should be a separate ministry for the disabled. Decisions will be made in the interest of the people in this state. Today is a golden day for the disabled, and a separate department has come into existence. Establishing this independent department of Welfare of Divyang persons without any struggle is a historic decision.”
There will be a secretary rank officer for this independent department. Whatever is necessary for the welfare of disabled individuals, this department will do everything. While deciding on any policy, now the opinion of the disabled persons will also be known. This decision has been made in just 24 days.
The Chief Minister also said that the Central Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have assured that adequate funds will be made available for this department as well as for the development of the state.
