Maharashtra Cabinet to Expand Next Week; BJP Gets 20 Ministries, Sena and NCP Receive 23

Mumbai, 6th December 2024: In a significant political move, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister during a grand ceremony at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai on Thursday evening. Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde and NCP’s Ajit Pawar took their oaths as Deputy Chief Ministers, signalling a new phase in the state’s leadership.

No other ministers were inducted during this ceremony, with plans for a cabinet expansion next week, ahead of the winter session of the state legislature in Nagpur.

Cabinet allocation details reveal that the BJP is set to receive 20 ministries, including key portfolios like Home and Finance. Shiv Sena and NCP are expected to be allocated 13 and 10 ministries, respectively.

In their first meeting, the newly formed state cabinet recommended to the Governor that the assembly session for administering oaths to newly elected MLAs be held from December 7 to 9. The election of the House Speaker is planned for the final day of the session.

Fadnavis, who is 54, becomes the 20th individual to hold the position of Chief Minister in Maharashtra since its formation in 1960.

The oath-taking ceremony, held at Azad Maidan, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several state chief ministers, Union ministers, industry leaders, and film celebrities.
