Indian-Origin Suella Braverman Appointed As Home Secretary Of Sunak Cabinet

Britain, 26th October 2022: After Rishi Sunak became the new Prime Minister of Britain, another Indian-origin MP entered his government. Conservative Party MP Suella Braverman has been appointed the Home Secretary of the United Kingdom in the Sunak cabinet. Braverman resigned from her post six days ago, taking responsibility for a technical breach of government regulations when she sent the email.

Suella Braverman resigned as Britain’s Home Secretary on 19th October, saying she had violated government rules. In her resignation, she expressed concern by questioning the government of then Prime Minister Liz Truss and how it functioned.

In her resignation, Braverman stated that she had sent a draft of a written ministerial statement on migration that went to print. Braverman wrote to the PM, “A lot of this was conveyed to MPs. Still, it is right for me to resign.” She said that as soon as she realized her mistake, she reported it on official channels. “I made a mistake. I accept the responsibility and resign,” she wrote.

Earlier this month, Suella Braverman had said that a trade deal with India would increase migration to the United Kingdom. Her remarks came when India and Britain were negotiating a free trade agreement. Indian-origin British minister Suella Braverman made this remark in an interview with the British weekly magazine The Spectator.

Responding to her statement, the Indian High Commission in the UK said that India initiated action on all matters raised under the Migration and Mobility Partnership (MMP). Goa-born Braverman was also one of the contenders for the post of PM.
