Former CM KCR’s Daughter Kavita Sent to CBI Custody in Delhi Liquor Policy Corruption Case
New Delhi, 12th April 2024: Kavita, the daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), has been remanded to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court until April 15 in connection with a corruption case related to the Delhi Liquor Policy. The CBI had requested a five-day remand to interrogate Kavita.
According to CBI officials, Kavita’s confrontation with the evidence is crucial to unraveling the conspiracy surrounding the liquor policy. They noted her unsatisfactory responses regarding alleged bribes to members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
In response, Kavita’s lawyer denounced the CBI’s actions as illegal, accusing the agency of violating fundamental rights. The court, after hearing arguments from both sides, reserved its decision.
Kavita had been in judicial custody since March 26 in connection with a money laundering case. On Thursday (April 11), she was arrested by the CBI while in Tihar Jail. Following the remand, Kavita will be taken to the CBI Headquarters for further interrogation. Earlier, on April 6, she had been interrogated by the CBI while in Tihar.
The CBI has charged Kavita under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act, including criminal conspiracy, falsification of accounts, and offences related to giving bribes to government servants.
Kavita’s involvement in the CBI-liquor policy scam case has been highlighted, particularly her alleged role in facilitating deals between businessmen and political figures. One such instance involved a meeting between a businessman from the South Group and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, during which support for business endeavors in Delhi was purportedly discussed.
During the court proceedings, Kavita’s lawyer, Nitish Rana, submitted an application, prompting the court to deliberate on its admissibility. The CBI presented statements alleging financial transactions and WhatsApp chats as evidence, suggesting Kavita’s involvement in facilitating wholesale licenses and NOCs for certain companies.
