Father Accuses West Bengal Government of Cover-Up in Daughter’s Death at Kolkata Hospital
Kolkata, 12th September 2024: On Wednesday, the father of a young woman who died at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month criticized the West Bengal government and hospital authorities, accusing them of covering up the truth. He claimed, “The hospital and its department have conspired to conceal the real cause of my daughter’s death.”
The victim, a junior female doctor, was discovered raped and murdered at the hospital in Kolkata on August 9. This tragic event has sparked widespread protests across the country.
More than a month after the incident, the father expressed his frustration over the lack of clarity regarding the circumstances of his daughter’s death. “I am unable to sleep; numerous questions remain unanswered. If the government is downplaying the incident and hiding details, why shouldn’t I suspect a cover-up?”
He also questioned why they were initially told that their daughter had committed suicide, despite the crime scene suggesting otherwise. “The condition in which she was found indicated a violent crime. Despite being surrounded by experts, we were told she had committed suicide.”
The father expressed concerns about the hospital’s response, asking why no one searched for his daughter during the long hours she was missing. “She was only found in the morning. What kind of system does the hospital have?”
He further accused the government of trying to divert attention from the case by focusing on the Durga Puja festivities. “A month after my daughter’s death, the Chief Minister’s appeal to return to festivities seems like an attempt to shift focus away from the investigation.”
While he maintains confidence in the ongoing CBI investigation, he expects the agency to uncover a larger conspiracy involving multiple individuals, including the college principal and department staff. “My daughter was fine until 11:15 pm, but she was found dead with injuries all over her body. It’s hard to believe this was the work of just one person.”
The family has raised concerns about potential evidence tampering, noting that efforts were made to expedite the cremation process. “We suspect evidence was tampered with. The body was not secured, and the hospital did not file an FIR,” he said.
