Delhi Police Beefs Up Security Measures Ahead of Farmer Protest
New Delhi, 15th February 2024: In anticipation of the upcoming farmer protests in Delhi, the Delhi Police has taken robust measures to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. Multiple layers of barricades have been erected along the borders of Delhi, fortified with modified concertina wires for added security. Additionally, access to the Tikri and Singhu borders, key points of the protest, has been completely sealed off.
One notable initiative by the Delhi Police is the establishment of special control rooms onboard two buses, equipped to accommodate over 40 officers for emergency meetings. This proactive step underscores the police force’s commitment to effectively manage any potential disruptions during the protests. Furthermore, in preparation for contingencies, the Delhi Police has ordered over 30,000 tear gas shells.
Highlighting their preparedness, a police official revealed that a substantial stockpile of tear gas shells had already been amassed, with an additional order of 30,000 placed from the Border Security Force’s Tear Smoke Unit in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. These newly ordered shells are being expedited from Gwalior to Delhi to bolster law enforcement resources.
The Delhi Police’s stringent measures aim to prevent any unauthorized entry of protesters into the national capital. Borders connected to Haryana, including Tikri and Singhu, have been completely sealed off. Moreover, heightened security arrangements have been implemented at other entry points into the city.
It’s worth mentioning that earlier attempts by hundreds of farmers from Punjab to march towards Delhi were thwarted near Ambala by the Haryana Police. Tensions escalated during the confrontation between farmers and security personnel, resulting in the deployment of tear gas shells by the police to disperse the agitated crowds.
As the nation braces for potential protests, the Delhi Police’s proactive stance and enhanced security measures signal a concerted effort to maintain peace and order, ensuring the safety of citizens and protesters alike.
