BJP Launches Cleanup of Yamuna River: A Major Promise Delivered

New Delhi, 18th February 2025: On Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party released a video claiming that the cleanup of the Yamuna River has officially begun, as promised. Former BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri shared the clip, detailing a large-scale cleaning operation that utilizes advanced equipment, such as skimmers to collect waste, weed harvesters, and dredge utility crafts to enhance the river’s cleanliness.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena also confirmed the commencement of the cleanup efforts, stating, “Cleaning operations on the Yamuna have started, with trash skimmers, weed harvesters, and dredge utility crafts now in action.” He added that on Sunday, he met with the Chief Secretary and ACS (I&FC) and directed them to begin work without delay.

In response, the Aam Aadmi Party criticized the BJP. Interim Chief Minister Atishi pointed out the inconsistency in BJP’s claims. “I want to ask the BJP to clarify whether they are in charge of the government or not. When there are power outages, they blame me, the caretaker CM, but when the cleaning work on Yamuna is underway, they credit the BJP and LG. They need to make up their minds,” she said, referring to her role as caretaker CM until a new government is formed.

The pollution of the Yamuna became a major issue during the recent Delhi assembly elections. The BJP criticized the AAP for its failure to clean the river despite being in power for ten years, while Arvind Kejriwal accused the Haryana BJP government of contaminating the Yamuna water supplied to Delhi, an allegation that the BJP denied.
