BJP Accuses Congress Government of Halting Karnataka’s ‘Goshala’ Project
Bengaluru, 4th January 2025: The BJP opposition in Karnataka has accused the Congress-led government of discontinuing the ‘Goshala’ project, which aimed to protect cows in the state.
Originally launched during the BJP’s tenure, the scheme approved 35 Goshalas (cowsheds) across Karnataka. The BJP claims that the Congress government is abandoning the initiative.
The BJP asserted, “Protecting cows is equivalent to preserving the culture of this land. The Congress government’s decision to halt the project initiated by our previous BJP government, which included plans to open a cow school in every district, shows its disregard.” The statement was made in a post on ‘X.’
Referring to media reports, the BJP alleged that Goshalas were being closed due to a lack of cows. “The claim of insufficient cows in Goshalas is merely an excuse. If there were genuine intentions, these facilities would already be operational. How can the Congress government, which prioritizes the interests of beef consumers, be trusted to safeguard Goshalas?” the BJP added.
The party condemned the alleged move, claiming it has offended millions of cow worshippers.
However, the Siddaramaiah government denied these allegations, clarifying that the Goshala scheme was not being scrapped.
During a press briefing after the cabinet meeting on Thursday, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil explained that the cabinet had approved measures to strengthen the 14 existing Goshalas. Patil further revealed that while work had begun on 35 Goshalas, 14 had already been completed, with the government now focusing on improving the current ones.
