Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry Issues Formal Protest Against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Remarks
New Delhi, 24th September 2024: On Monday, Bangladesh formally protested to New Delhi regarding comments made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Bangladeshi nationals during his recent visit to Jharkhand.
In a statement from the Bangladesh foreign ministry, it was noted that a protest letter was delivered to the Deputy High Commissioner of India in Dhaka on September 23. The ministry expressed serious concerns, a profound sense of hurt, and significant displeasure, urging the Government of India to counsel its political leaders against making such objectionable and unacceptable statements.
The statement further emphasized that remarks made by individuals in responsible positions about citizens of a neighbouring country can undermine the spirit of mutual respect and understanding between the two nations.
While addressing a rally in Sahibganj district before Jharkhand’s assembly elections on Friday, Amit Shah remarked, “There is no place for infiltrators in the state. They are marrying our daughters, seizing land, and undermining rich tribal culture and heritage… we will drive each one of them out… Let the lotus bloom here.”
