Prime Minister Narendra Modi Begins Historic US Visit, Fostering Stronger Partnerships In Technology, Defense, And More

New Delhi, 20th June 2023: On Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced an official state visit to the United States. During his visit, scheduled from June 20 to June 23, he is expected to hold meetings with several prominent CEOs, including Sundar Pichai from Google, H. Lawrence Culp Jr. from General Electric, Andy Jassy from Amazon, and Elon Musk, the co-founder of Tesla.

In addition to these CEOs, PM Modi will also engage with other notable industry leaders from various sectors such as IT, telecom, FMCG, and logistics. Some of the CEOs on his agenda include Sanjay Malhotra from Micron Tech, H. Lawrence Culp Jr. from General Electric, Garry E. Dickerson from Applied Materials, and Dave Calhoun from Boeing.

Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra highlighted the significance of the visit, emphasizing that one of the key outcomes will be the establishment of a defense industrial production roadmap. This roadmap aims to foster co-development and co-production, creating closer supply line and production linkages between India and the US.

Furthermore, India and the US are expected to sign a government-to-government deal for the co-production of jets by General Electric and HAL, as well as agreements for supply chain cooperation, including the acquisition of 31 Predator Drones from General Atomics, among others.

During his stay in the US, Prime Minister Modi will meet with over two dozen thought leaders, including Nobel laureates, economists, artists, scientists, scholars, entrepreneurs, academicians, and health sector experts. These engagements are scheduled to take place in New York on June 21.

US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will honor PM Modi with a state dinner on June 22. Additionally, Modi has been invited to address a joint session of the US Congress on the same day, making him one of the few world leaders to receive this opportunity twice. Mukesh Aghi, the president of USISPF, expressed his delight and honor at Modi’s visit, emphasizing the significance of the US-India relationship.

The state visit by Prime Minister Modi aims to reaffirm the strength of the strategic partnership between India and the US. It will further strengthen relations in key areas such as defense, energy, healthcare, technology, and education.
