Supreme Court Directs CBI to Submit New Report in Kolkata Case by Next Tuesday

Kolkata, 9th September 2024: The Supreme Court today directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a new report next Tuesday concerning the Kolkata rape-murder case. The directive came after the CBI raised concerns about the forensic report, emphasizing the importance of identifying “who collected the samples.”

Representing the CBI, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta informed the court that the agency had opted to send the samples to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi for further examination.

“We have received the forensic report, and it is clear that when the girl was found at 9:30 am, her jeans and undergarments were removed and lying nearby. The body was semi-nude, with visible injury marks… Samples were collected and initially sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in West Bengal. The CBI has now decided to send the samples to AIIMS and another laboratory,” Mehta explained.

Though the Solicitor General did not provide specific details of the findings, he noted, “A person enters, the girl is nude, and this is the result of the FSL report. Hence, identifying who collected the sample has become a crucial question.”
