PM Modi Regrets SC Decision on Electoral Bonds, Flags Black Money Concerns

New Delhi, 15th April 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed regret over the Supreme Court’s decision to scrap electoral bonds, citing concerns about black money proliferation in the country.

In an interview with news agency ANI, PM Modi defended the electoral bonds scheme as a measure to combat black money in election campaigns, acknowledging its imperfections.

PM Modi criticized the opposition for spreading misinformation about electoral bonds and emphasised the need for transparency in political funding.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on electoral bonds in February declared the scheme unconstitutional, citing violations of the right to information and equality.

PM Modi highlighted that a significant portion of electoral bond purchases went to parties other than the BJP, dismissing allegations of bias.

Addressing allegations of using central agencies against rivals, PM Modi asserted that only a small percentage of cases involve political leaders.

PM Modi rebuffed claims of favouritism towards the ruling party and defended changes in election procedures, emphasizing inclusivity in the Election Commission.

The Prime Minister condemned the Congress manifesto, labelling it detrimental to the economy and the aspirations of young voters.
